Hongguang Mini EV reached sales of 121,514 units in the second half of last year. The Hongguang Mini EV has surpassed the sales of the Tesla Model 3 in the Chinese market.
The small electric car model Wuling Hongguang Mini EV was officially launched in the Chinese market in the middle of last year. This is an electric car produced by the Wuling subsidiary brand of a joint venture between General Motors Corporation (GM), SAIC Company and Wuling Motors.
Shortly after its launch, the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV was also quickly sold in China. In June 2020, which is also the first month of sale, this tiny electric car has brought in sales of 1,048 units.
Since then, the sales of the Chinese model have steadily increased, namely 7,348 units in July, 9,510 units in August, 14,495 units in September, 20,631 units in October, 33,094 units in November and 35,388 units in the final month of 2020. In total, in the second half of 2020, 121,514 Wuling Hongguang Mini EVs were sold to Chinese consumers.
Although it was only sold in China for half a year, the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV has also surpassed the Tesla Model 3 electric car in terms of sales. At the same time, the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV will also become the best-selling electric car model in the Chinese market in 2020.
Having such impressive results is partly due to the “soft” selling price of this Chinese electric car model. Accordingly, in the neighboring market to Vietnam, Wuling Hongguang Mini EV has prices ranging from 29,800 – 38,800 yuan.
With the above money, Chinese customers will receive an electric car only 2,917 mm long, 1,493 mm wide, 1,621 mm high, 1,940 mm wheelbase and 665 kg in weight. Of these specifications, the highlight is the vehicle’s height. This is not surprising as the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV was originally designed with inspiration from the famous Japanese kei car line.
Outside, Wuling Hongguang Mini EV has straight veins, many square details, 2 side doors and 2 color combinations. Meanwhile, the car’s interior has enough room for 4 people to sit and is designed in a minimalist, practical style.
This Chinese electric car is equipped with a digital instrument panel behind the steering wheel and knobs for the air conditioning and sound on the dashboard. The car does not have a center console, in the middle of the two front seats only the gear knob appears. However, inside the car still has 12 compartments for storage, including cup holders.
To accommodate four people, the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV does not actually have a proper luggage compartment. If you want to carry things, the driver must fold the rear seats down to have a luggage compartment with a volume of 740 liters. In other words, if carrying 4 people, Wuling Hongguang Mini EV would have to say “no” to the baggage and vice versa.
The “heart” of this Chinese electric car is an electric motor with a maximum capacity of 27 horsepower and a maximum torque of 85 Nm, combined with two 9.2 kWh and 13.8 kWh batteries. . The 9.2 kWh battery allows the car to run for 120 km on a full charge. The corresponding figure for a 13.8 kWh battery is 170 km. The time to fully charge a 9.2 kWh battery is 6.5 hours and 9 hours for a 13.8 kWh battery. In addition, Wuling Hongguang Mini EV can also reach a maximum speed of 120 km / h.
The Wuling brand did not actually profit from the sale of the Hongguang Mini EV. Instead, Wuling used the model’s sales as a way to improve its new energy vehicle quota at the request of the Chinese government to boost consumption of electric cars.
