Mercedes-Maybach S680 4Matic 2022 – “Luxury item”

The Mercedes-Maybach S680 4Matic 2022 is currently the only model in the German brand’s product line equipped with a powerful 621-horsepower twin-turbo V12 engine. It gives car owners a very worthy experience.

Mercedes-Maybach sets a new standard

Any luxury and class item has a source, where inspiration comes from and creates them. Of course, Mercedes-Maybach is no exception. Back in the 1990s, when Volkswagen decided to acquire Bentley and BMW bought Rolls-Royce, Mercedes-Benz was apprehensive and immediately took a bold action – building a limousine. which is luxurious enough to rival Bentley and Rolls-Royce. The first car was developed on the existing platform of the S-Class W140 and was first introduced to the market in 2003. At that time, although this car was highly appreciated in terms of engineering as well as large design, it was not still capable of fairly competing with rivals from the UK. Therefore, instead of the name Mercedes-Benz Maybach with the characteristic three-pointed star brand identity, this model became Maybach – an implicit move that affirms the “waking up” of the luxury car brand Maybach.

For those who don’t know, the Maybach brand was founded in 1909 by the talented engineer Wilhelm Maybach and his son, Karl Maybach. This means that the Maybach is even 27 years older than the Mercedes-Benz (1926). For those who really loved cars in the period before the 2nd World war broke out (1939 – 1945), Wilhelm Maybach was a name worthy of reverence. Until the 1940s, Maybach gradually became a famous luxury car brand associated with the nobility and royalty around the world. In addition to luxury cars, Maybach was also a supplier of tank engines to the Nazi army during World War II. After the war ended, Maybach suddenly announced a cease-and-desist.

In 2003, Maybach came back as a sub-brand of the Daimler AG Group with two main models such as the 52S and 62S. Although still being warmly welcomed by its long-time loyal followers, Maybach was unable to generate a sales breakthrough to satisfy the Daimler AG management unit. Within 10 years of returning to the auto industry, Maybach’s sales fell to about 3,000 units. It was known that Maybach lost more than 350,000 USD (at that time) for each car delivered to customers. There is no reason for Daimler to continue to hold onto this unfortunate “child”. In 2013, Maybach announced its shutdown for the second time.

It seemed that Mercedes-Benz had really failed before Bentley and Rolls-Royce, but only a year later, Maybach’s aura once again rose. But this time the Maybach is no longer a Maybach car, it is merely the most advanced version of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. It seems that the German car manufacturer has decided to reposition the segment for this brand, no longer directly confronting Rolls-Royce in the “home field”. In fact, this is a very wise move when after only 3 years, sales of Mercedes-Maybach are 9 times higher than sales of two models Maybach 52S and 62S within 10 years.

Mercedes-Maybach S-Class 2022 – “Luxury item”

The Mercedes-Maybach S-Class 2022 is a true luxury “item”, it always sparkles in any condition. Exclusive vertical bar grille with large front air intakes, sharp embossed lines on the bonnet, sophisticated headlights, shiny chrome border around the window frames, and exclusive wheels – all both make this car shine like a diamond-encrusted Rolex that always attracts attention from all sides.

The new generation Mercedes-Maybach S-Class is developed based on the S-Class W223 launched at the end of last year. However, unlike its brothers, the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class 2022 has a very unique chassis platform, including a new roof that is about ¾ inch higher (~ 19.05mm) with a stamped ribbed Float in the middle runs opposite from the face of the steering wheel. The grille still has a familiar design, but with a larger size, the lighter-colored metal spokes run more vertically, giving a superficial and healthy look. The cabin structure has also been redesigned with a slightly higher roofline, fixed rear quadrant windows, and a more luxuriously shaped C-pillar with attractive chrome trim.

The new generation Mercedes-Maybach rolls on the longest platform of the three developed specifically for the S-Class W223, codenamed Z223. Specifically, it has a wheelbase of 3,396mm, which is 180mm longer than the S-Class W223 stretched wheelbase version and 200mm longer than the standard S-Class W223 version. This entire increase is reserved for the rear seat space of the car – where every Mercedes-Maybach S-Class owner spends most of their time during use.

The business-standard rear seats on the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class 2022 have the ability to recline from 19 – 43 degrees, the footrest is also extended by about 2 inches (~ 51mm) compared to its predecessor, integrated. calf massage feature for passengers. Heated neck and shoulders are also available on this class of seats as standard, while the seat belts have a similar design to Mercedes’ Coupe models, making it easy for passengers to use without having to move around too much. The pair of large

infotainment screens mounted on the backs of the front seats can be controlled via a tablet located in the center armrest. Notably, this tablet can now be completely disassembled from the armrest, allowing passengers to operate in a simpler and more convenient way.

In addition, the business-class experience on the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class 2022 is further enhanced with a number of optional equipment such as a heated and cooled cup holder in the rear center armrest, working table with a smart folding mechanism – similar to that of first-class airline seats, the refrigerator comes with a pair of silver champagne glasses and an electric door/closer system activated via a switch mounted on the ceiling.

With all these well-intentioned equipment and features, it’s obvious that the backseat of the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class 2022 is a worth – experiencing place. In fact, it is very comfortable, although not quite as luxurious and classy as the Rolls-Royce Phantom for two main reasons. Firstly, the seat surface seems to need a bit more padding, especially when leaning slightly back. Secondly, although equipped with an air suspension system and a stereo camera to scan and analyze the road surface ahead, it is still not quite as comfortable and smooth as the Rolls-Royce Phantom – mainly because clear responses from Pirelli P Zero 255/35 R21 tires when hitting some small obstacles on the road.

Mercedes-Maybach S680 4Matic 2022 driving experience

Mercedes-Maybach S-Class 2022 will be sold in the US market with 2 versions: S580 4Matic and S680 4Matic. The Mercedes-Maybach S580 4Matic 2022 version shares the same powertrain platform with the S-Class W223, including a 4.0L twin-turbo V8 engine block codenamed M176 producing a maximum capacity of 496 horsepower at 5,500 rpm. and maximum torque of 700 Nm at 2,000 – 4,500 rpm. With a 9-speed automatic transmission and generator – integrated starter helps to add 20 hp and 200 Nm in case of need. The selling price of this version starts at 185,950 USD (~ 4.23 billion VND).

The more advanced version is the Mercedes-Maybach S680 4Matic 2022 which is expected to be available at US dealers in the first half of 2022, the official price has not been announced yet. In Germany, customers can now order the new S680 with prices starting from 164,565 Euro. Regarding the powertrain setup, it is quite surprising that the Mercedes-Maybach S680 4Matic 2022 is now equipped with a 6.0L V12 twin-turbo engine for a maximum capacity of 621 horsepower and 1,000 Nm of torque. That’s right, we weren’t mistaken! The V12 engine block has officially returned, but it will no longer be available on the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, but only for a single version of the Mercedes-Maybach.

However, the 9G-Tronic 9-speed automatic transmission can only handle a maximum of 900 Nm of torque, so the 6.0L twin-turbo V12 engine block on the new generation has been slightly tweaked, no longer capable. produces 1,000 Nm as on the previous Mercedes-Maybach S650. However, it is still powerful enough to give the 2.3-ton sedan the ability to accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in 4.4 seconds, which is about 0.3 seconds faster than its predecessor shared V12 engine block

Mercedes-Maybach S680 4Matic 2022 gives car owners a same driving experience as doing with S-Class W223. With an overall length of up to 5,469mm and a width of 1,920mm, it is understandable that this super-luxury sedan takes up a lot of space when traveling on the road. However, all the sophisticated electronics nestled neatly around the driver’s seat make it feel like you’re driving a smaller and more maneuverable vehicle than it actually is. Standard rear-wheel steering with up to 10 degrees of rotation provides flexibility at low speeds, normal corners needing just over a quarter of a wheel turn. To keep the driver aware of exactly what is going on around the vehicle, the central display provides visual feedback including the road surface ahead and the movement of surrounding vehicles. Meanwhile, the augmented reality HUD display simultaneously displays nearby traffic signals to the driver.

The air suspension system and the long-wheelbase of 3,396mm greatly eliminate front/rear skidding, while the electronics will keep the car moving in the most stable and sure way even at high speeds corners. Despite not being able to break the laws of physics, the Mercedes-Maybach S680 4Matic 2022 still helps owners maintain a calm and gentle attitude wherever they go, especially on roads that make them feel less confident in each handling operation.

It took more than 20 years for Mercedes-Benz to find a unique niche for the Maybach brand. Although the Mercedes-Maybach S680 4Matic 2022 is not yet capable of representing absolute luxury, luxury, and class like the Rolls-Royce Phantom, it is equipped with many more advanced technological features at only half price. Meanwhile, the Mercedes-Maybach S580 is equipped with a larger V8 engine, with a more spacious and luxurious interior compartment than a Bentley Flying Spur with a similar price. Customers who crave luxury and sophistication with a long list of leading-edge technological equipment will certainly feel completely satisfied with such a Maybach S-Class.
