MG is promoting its presence in the ASEAN region.
MG will launch a fully electric hatchback later this year, which will be one of two all-electric products from the brand.
The new model will be similar in size to the MG3 hatchback using an internal combustion engine. However, it is not a replacement for the MG3 as the new model is expected to be a cheap option in the MG lineup.
The EV hatchback is expected to use battery technology and powertrain from the brand’s current models, the electric ZS SUV. However, the battery on the EV hatchback will reduce capacity due to space and cost limitations. In addition, the power of the electric motor is also reduced compared to the power of the ZS, which is a maximum capacity of 150 PS and a maximum torque of 350 Nm.
It is known that the MG ZS SUV powered by a 44.5 kWh lithium-ion battery has a travel range of 337 km / charge. The electric MG ZS comes to the Thai market in 2019 and is capable of fully charged 80% in 6.5 hours with a normal charger or in 30 minutes via a DC fast charger.
It is predicted that the electric hatchback from MG will cost significantly lower than rival models such as Honda e and Mini Electric, possibly around RM 109,424.
