Across is Suzuki’s new SUV line developed based on the Toyota RAV4.
Suzuki introduced a new SUV called Across. A special feature that makes Suzuki Across interesting is that this car is developed based on the chassis, the engine of the Toyota RAV4 PHEV (plug-in hybrid, plug-in hybrid).
Compared to Toyota RAV4, Suzuki Across has almost similar interior / exterior. Suzuki has tweaked a few design details such as the grille, front bumper, fog light sockets, forming 19-inch wheels and using the S-logo to create the Across.
In the UK, 2021 Suzuki Across has just announced the official selling price for the PHEV variant. The 5-seater SUV from Japan is priced at £ 45,599, about $ 59,000. Competitors to Suzuki Across PHEV in Europe include the Ford Kuga 2.5 EcoBoost PHEV (Ford Escape), Peugeot 3008 1.6 Hybrid4 300 GT and Mitsubishi Outlander 2.4 PHEV.
The interior of the Suzuki Across is almost identical to the Toyota RAV4, from the design of the steering wheel, the electronic speedometer, the center console, the infortainment to the gear lever are all kept by Suzuki from the RAV4 model.
Across PHEV seats are upholstered with red stitching and leather. Passenger space is spacious when the RAV4 is a spacious high-powered car for families.
The car is equipped with a 2.5L I4 petrol engine combined with 2 electric motors, with a CVT gearbox and a full-time 4-wheel drive system. The Across’s detailed power and torque specifications are not announced by Suzuki. On the Toyota RAV4 PHEV, this plug-in hybrid system produces a total output of 302 hp.
With a lithium-ion battery cluster with a capacity of 18.1 kWh, Suzuki Across PHEV is capable of running pure electricity about 75 km, marginally better than PHEV models in the same segment.
In terms of safety, Across shares some of the steering aids from the RAV4. It’s forward collision warning, lane keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control.
