Tesla introduces the Model Y crossover electric vehicle made in Shanghai, China

Model Y was distributed and manufactured by Tesla in China. Entering the Chinese market is very important because it is the largest car market in the world.

Tesla began shipping the Model Y crossovers made in China yesterday (Jan. 18). It is not clear how many Model Ys have been delivered to customers. Tesla did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

China is the largest market for electric vehicles in the world, and is critically important to Tesla and its growth plans. Tesla has ambitions to increase sales from 500,000 vehicles by 2020 to 20 million vehicles per year over the next decade.
