Toyota Land Cruiser 2022 will be equipped with a V6 engine instead of the current V8. The new generation Toyota Land Cruiser will be launched in April 2021.
The Toyota Land Cruiser will be discontinued in the US after the 2021 model, and development of the next-generation model is still in progress. The current generation Land Cruiser has been around since 2008, making it one of the oldest models still on sale.
According to AutoWeek, the all-new Land Cruiser 300 Series will have some significant changes under the bonnet. The next-generation off-road SUV will ditch the V8 for the new V6 petrol and diesel engines.
The Toyota Land Cruiser will have a new engine option of a twin-turbocharged 3.5L V6. The Toyota Land Cruiser will also have a hybrid engine version and a 3.3L V6 diesel engine. It is likely that the diesel engine will help the Toyota Land Cruiser to be popular in markets with rough terrain such as Africa and West Asia.
The current generation of the Toyota Land Cruiser in the US is equipped with a naturally aspirated 5.7-liter V8 that produces 381 hp and 543.6 Nm of torque, combined with an 8-speed automatic transmission. In terms of size, the new Land Cruiser is expected to be the equivalent of the “predecessor” version.
This size is larger than the “brother” models such as Land Cruiser Prado, Lexus GX or Toyota Fortuner. The new SUV will also be much lighter than the current Land Cruiser, while still being able to effectively off-road.
Sales of the Toyota Land Cruiser have declined rapidly in the US over the years. In 2020 alone, only 3,500 units will be sold in this market. The new Toyota Land Cruiser is expected to launch in April 2021 and officially go on sale in 2022, but it is likely that the Japanese automaker will not sell this SUV in the US, or may launch at least 1- 2 years.
