Toyota has announced the GR Yaris racing car will attend the 2021 Australian Rally Championship.
Toyota has proven that it is serious about taking part in the Gazoo Racing brand in Australia with the launch of the GR Yaris AP4 racing car. Based on the new GR Yaris, the exterior design, styling and construction of the GR Yaris AP4 have been developed by PP&D in Port Melbourne, Australia.
The GR Yaris’ private three-door body is 60 mm wider and 45 mm lower than the conventional five-door version. The car is designed on the TNGA platform, the front of the GA-B variant is mixed with the rear of the GA-C
As standard, the Yaris GR comes with a turbocharged 1.6-liter three-cylinder G16E-GTS engine that makes 272 hp and 370 Nm of torque. The Yaris GR is equipped with a Torsen mechanical lock differential in each axis. The car can accelerate from 0-100 km / h in 5.2 seconds.
The GR-Four drivetrain was developed specifically for this car, while the front-to-rear torque split is handled by a multi-disc clutch package in place of the heavier center differential. The vehicle has a weight of 1,280 kg.
Developers begin designing the Yaris GR in March 2020. Body design of the Yaris GR begins with virtual reality technology. The designers develop sketches for the next components, such as for the front fenders, front and rear bumper covers, rear glass panels, bonnet vents and mirrors. Then the blueprints are finalized in the digital realm.
