With its large size, the brand-new Volkswagen Talagon SUV for the Chinese market comes in both 6 and 7 seater versions.
Volkswagen Talagon debuted during the 2021 Shanghai Motor Show
For some reason, Volkswagen believes that it doesn’t have enough SUVs in China’s billion-dollar market. Therefore, in the 2021 Shanghai Motor Show currently taking place in China, Volkswagen has unveiled a completely new SUV called Talagon.
As a product of the FAW-Volkswagen joint venture, Talagon is the commercial version of the SMV Concept model launched two years ago. Similar to the SMV Concept, the Volkswagen Talagon is also a large SUV with a length of 5,152 mm, a width of 2,002 mm, a height of 1,795 mm and a wheelbase of 2,980 mm.
With the above dimensions, Talagon is the largest SUV model of the Volkswagen brand ever. Compared with senior Atlas or Teramont, Volkswagen Talagon 112 mm longer, 12 mm wider and 15 mm taller. Meanwhile, the wheelbase of the new SUV is identical to that of the Volkswagen Atlas.
Developed on the basis of the MQB Evo platform similar to the Volkswagen Golf and Audi A3, Talagon has a design that is quite loyal to the SMV Concept. At the top of the car, this large SUV is equipped with a wide grille with a horizontal brace in the middle, connecting the Volkswagen logo. The top and bottom bezels of the grille also come with shiny chrome trim.
Particularly, the splint in the center of the Volkswagen Talagon grille connects to the “C” shaped LED daytime running lights, which surround the headlights. Inside the headlights are square LED bulbs. Below are two small angled air vents and a fairly large center air cavity, each with silver trim.
Round to the side, we will see a chrome border lying close to the roof, extending down to the D-pillar. In addition, the ribbed stamping line extends from the headlight to the foot diameter. From the back door to the tail light there is also a ribbed stamping line.
Behind, Volkswagen Talagon is equipped with slender taillights, connected together with the LED strip in the middle. Right below the Volkswagen logo is a embossed stamp “Talagon”. Finally, the silver undercarriage, the 2 ends of the trapezoidal exhaust pipe and the horizontal reflector, extends along the width of the rear bumper.
In front of the driver, there is a dashboard with a design like Volkswagen Golf, digital dashboard and touch screen of the infotainment system. Below the center screen, there is also a silver border around the air-conditioning door.
And yet, Volkswagen has also enhanced the center console of the car, bringing the gear lever and other control buttons closer to the driver. This change creates a larger storage compartment, located just below the center console.
The source of power for the Volkswagen Talagon in the Chinese market is the V6 petrol engine block, turbocharged, 2.5L capacity, producing a maximum capacity of 295 hp and maximum torque of 500 Nm. Power is transmitted to 4 wheels via a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission and 4Motion drive system.
In addition, Volkswagen Talagon is also equipped with a 4-cylinder, turbocharged, 2.0L petrol engine with 2 levels of power. The powerful 186 hp and 320 Nm version of this engine is for the Volkswagen Talagon 330 TSI. Meanwhile, the 380 TSI version is equipped with the same engine but powerful 217 hp and 350 Nm.
Both versions of the engine above go with a DSG gearbox. However, the more powerful version of the new engine can be combined with the 4Motion all-wheel drive system.
Currently, the price of Volkswagen Talagon cars in the Chinese market has not been announced. When on the market, the car will compete with competitors like Ford Explorer.
