Aston Martin Vantage will replace the Mercedes-Benz GT R as a safety vehicle duty in the first F1 2021 race in Bahrain.
Since 1996, Mercedes has been supplying safe cars to the FIA Formula One World Championship. Since the 2021 season, Aston Martin has become a supplier of safe cars and medical vehicles on F1 racing, together with the German car brand, two respective models: Vantage, sports coupe is safe car, the DBX was the first SUV to be a medical vehicle. Both are equipped with Mercedes-AMG M177 engine, 4.0 V8 twin-turbocharged engine.
Easily identify the Vantage and DBX special car versions of F1 racing with prominent Racing Green colors. The car also has a series of Lime Essence lime-yellow trim lines on the front / side spoiler and rear diffuser. Like the Mercedes-AMG GT R safety car, the Vantage safety vehicle is also equipped with a warning light / horn system. In particular, the light system above the hood is made from carbon fiber and has an aerodynamic design.
Behind the car is mounted a camera that transmits images directly to the monitor inside the cockpit. The number plate area has been replaced with an LED screen that displays the signal for the driver. The Vantage is performance tuned to match the F1 track, increasing power from 503 to 528 hp, while torque remains the same 685 Nm and tweaks the gearbox to increase control as well as more realism.
The British car brand added rear spoiler, upgraded grille to generate 155.6 kg of force down the road surface at 200 km / h, 60 kg more than the standard Vantage. The car uses the latest temperature control system. Interior equipped with race seats with 6-point seat belts, two screens on the dashboard displaying race information. Center console re-arranged accordingly.
Aston Martin DBX medical car is not much modified, but the same safety and standard equipment of FIA as the Vantage. The SUV has a capacity of 542 horsepower, maximum torque of 700 Nm, acceleration time from 0-100 km / h just 4.5 seconds and top speed of 291 km / h.
The inside of the cockpit also received many upgrades to suit the job of a safe vehicle, such as the seat changed to FIA sports. The center screen has also been changed and there is a light / horn control system, the car is also equipped with a radio communication system to connect with the command center.
As planned, two Aston Martin will launch F1 at the 3-day pre-season test in Bahrain from March 12-14. Then will officially participate in the first Bahrain Grand Prix on March 29.
