BMW has just added the standard version of the 2-Series Gran Coupe line with front-wheel drive configuration. The car has a starting price of 35,700 USD in the US.
After about 2 years of being launched, the BMW 2-Series Gran Coupe (F44) has just been updated to a new version in the US. It was a BMW 228i sDrive Gran Coupe with front-wheel drive (FWD).
Notably, the BMW 228i sDrive Gran Coupe is the first FWD sedan of the Bavarian automaker to be sold in North America. Before that, the BMW X1 was the first SUV with an sDrive option in this market.
As a standard version of the BMW 2-Series Gran Coupe 2021, the 228i sDrive model costs $ 35,700, $ 2,000 less than the 4-wheel drive 228i xDrive.
Similar to the 4-wheel drive version, the BMW 228i sDrive Gran Coupe is equipped with a 2.0L I4 turbocharged engine with an 8-speed automatic transmission. Power parameters reach 228 hp and 350 Nm of torque.
This sedan has a 0-96 km / h acceleration time of 6.3 seconds, instead of 6 seconds like the BMW 228i xDrive Gran Coupe. The advantage of FWD drivetrain is improved fuel consumption. According to the manufacturer, the 228i sDrive saves more than the 228i xDrive about 0.3 liters / 100 km, reaching 8.4 liters / 100 km in combined conditions.
The design and interior / exterior of the BMW 228i sDrive are identical to the “brother” of the 228i xDrive. The BMW 2-Series Gran Coupe is a rival of the Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class or Audi A3 Sedan.
