The Mitsubishi Outlander 2021 is completely transformed compared to the old one. The SUV is more competitive thanks to a modern design, spacious interior, more powerful engines and more technology.
The past decade has been a period of little success for Mitsubishi. From a brand known for its sports cars, Mitsubishi is now more known for its SUV models or the urban Mirage whose design is not too impressive.
The alliance with Nissan and Renault partly breathed new life into the Japanese automaker, the Outlander 2021 is a prime example of that transformation. The 7-seater SUV is significantly changed compared to the previous generation, from design, interior to the engine.
Modern design, more powerful
The Mitsubishi Outlander 2021 is developed on the basis of the Renault – Nissan – Mitsubishi automotive alliance. The model that directly shares the chassis platform and engine with the new Outlander is the Nissan Rogue, another name for the Nissan X-Trail in the US market.
One of the biggest changes on the Mitsubishi Outlander is the appearance. The new generation of this SUV has a bold design, the front end is similar to the Engelberg Tourer concept car that was shown at the Geneva Motor Show, giving the Outlander a different look. The embossed side and rear lines give the car a muscular look. The rear of the car looks younger when the LED taillights are arranged horizontally and create a slimmer shape than before.
If the previous Mitsubishi Outlander has a neutral design and gradually becomes boring, in the new generation, the car becomes more elegant in a modern way. At a glance the appearance can also see that the Mitsubishi Outlander 2021 is superior to the old model.
Vehicle length x width x height 4,709 x 1,862 x 1,748 mm respectively, it is 14 mm longer than the “predecessor”, 52 mm wider and 38 mm higher. The wheelbase is also extended by 35 mm to 2,705 mm. This helps the interior space of the 7-seater SUV become more spacious.
It can be said that this transformation of the Outlander is necessary when the life cycle of the previous life has spent 5 years in the market and has gradually become outdated compared to other competitors. The changes in appearance contribute to the Mitsubishi Outlander becoming more attractive and competitive.
Improved engine, better performance
Another benefit of the Renault – Nissan – Mitsubishi alliance is the ability to share engines with each other. Mitsubishi Outlander 2021 is equipped with the same 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine as the Nissan X-Trail.
This engine block has a capacity of 181 horsepower and 245 Nm of torque. This year, the Mitsubishi Outlander 2021 will add a more powerful V6 or plug-in hybrid.
This is a significant step forward compared to the old Outlander. In Vietnam, the facelift generation of Mitsubishi Outlander was launched a year ago, the car is equipped with a 2.0L MIVEC petrol engine, with a capacity of 145 horsepower and 196 Nm of torque. Transmission CVT gearless automatic 6-speed simulation. 2.4L 4-cylinder engine version has 166 horsepower capacity and 222 Nm of torque.
In the new generation, Mitsubishi Outlander will also use a CVT variable gearbox emulating 8 speeds developed by Nissan. Front-wheel drive is standard, and there are different driving modes like Gravel (gravel) and Snow (snowy road) for better performance in difficult terrain.
The 4-wheel drive version will add a Mud drive mode, which makes the car more stable when traction is limited, such as on muddy roads or deep snow.
With a larger capacity engine, the Mitsubishi Outlander 2021 has better performance than the “predecessor” generation. Along with driving modes for off-road driving, the car escapes from the silhouette of an urban SUV, replaced by a more powerful and versatile model.
The interior is more spacious
Mitsubishi has spent a lot of time improving the Outlander’s cabin. In fact, the interior of the Outlander 2021 is a huge step up from the old, modern and more advanced life. The dashboard has a horizontal minimalist design, the infotainment screen cluster is now higher, separate from the center area as in the previous car.
The 4-spoke steering wheel has a new, sportier design, accompanied by a 12.3-inch digital speedometer. The shift lever is now converted to the electric shift lever and the premium version has an optional rotary button for driving mode and off-road assistance mode.
