Free is the first commercial vehicle made by Voyah – Dongfeng’s new luxury brand of automaker.
Dongfeng (Dong Phong) is a car brand that is too familiar to Vietnamese people. However, not everyone knows that Dongfeng will set up a brand new sub-brand called Voyah (which means “to sail”) in 2020.
This year, Dongfeng’s luxury brand launched two new concept cars, i-Land and iFree. On December 18, Voyah continued to introduce its first commercial vehicle with the name Free in its home market of China. This is essentially a commercial version of the Voyah iFree concept car, which was unveiled at the Beijing 2020 Motor Show in September this year.
Positioned in the large SUV segment, the Voyah Free owns 4,905 mm long, 1,950 mm wide, 1,690 mm high and a wheelbase of 2,955 mm. In addition, this Chinese SUV also owns an air drag coefficient of only 0.28 Cd thanks to its smooth and rounded exterior design.
Outside, Voyah Free looks quite loyal to the concept car iFree. Accordingly, the car is equipped with a large grille with chrome spokes lying vertically, reminiscent of a luxury car Maserati. In the center of the grille is the glowing logo of the Voyah brand.
Located on either side of the grille is a rectangular headlight cluster with 2 LED bulbs, clawed backwards. The headlamp cluster integrates LED daytime running lights, extending to the Voyah logo in the middle of the grille.
Around the side, we will see a fairly simple design with a slight rib extending from the front fender to the second door handle. Next is the Voyah logo located in the middle of the C-pillar, the door handles can be turned up / down, the silver roof baga and the turbine-shaped multi-spoke rim is quite eye-catching.
Behind, Voyah Free is equipped with long horizontal headlights and connected by a slender strip of lights. Between the two taillights is a glossy black detail with the Voyah embossed stamp on it. Meanwhile, the rear glass is surrounded by a silver rim below.
Similar to the exterior, Voyah Free’s interior is also designed with a yacht-inspired design. Despite its large size, this model is only equipped with a 5-seater interior.
The highlight of this Chinese car model is in 3 adjacent screens on the dashboard. A screen resides in the digital instrument panel behind the steering wheel and a screen for the infotainment system. In addition, Voyah Free also has a screen in front of the passenger in the driver’s seat. As a result, passengers can use on-board features such as navigation or listening to music.
According to the Voyah brand, these 3 screens will link together and fold down, reminiscent of the unique dashboard of the McLaren 720S supercar. In addition, the interface of the screen will also change according to the driving mode that the user is choosing.
Other noteworthy interior equipment of this Chinese car includes a sporty bottom beveled steering wheel, color-changing rim light system, aroma system like a car to Germany, a panoramic sunroof. change the opacity of the glass in 10 levels, the Dynaudio 10-speaker sound system and the active soundproofing system. Meanwhile, the chair has enough features such as 12-way power adjustment, location memory, heating, cooling and massage.
In particular, Voyah Free also features voice commands in 4 zones. Thanks to that, people in any position in the car can also adjust the air conditioner and windows by voice. In addition is the ability to command with 4 types of gestures.
In the Chinese market, Voyah Free comes in two versions, including an all-electric version and a version with a gasoline engine to increase range. In particular, the electric version uses 2 electric motors with a total capacity of more than 680 hp and maximum torque of 1,000 Nm. Thanks to that, the car can run all the way 500 km. In the other version, the Voyah Free still uses 2 electric motors as above but has a 4-cylinder petrol engine, turbocharged, 1.5 liter capacity, producing a maximum capacity of 82 horsepower, allowing the car runs all the way 860 km.
When driving a Voyah Free, the operator can choose one of four driving modes: Standard, Comfort, Off-road and High Energy. In addition, this large SUV also uses dual wishbone suspension at the front and multi-link at the rear.
In terms of safety, Voyah Free has features like cruise control in all speed ranges, lane keeping assist, automatic emergency braking, 360-degree camera and blind spot detection. Finally, there is the active night vision system, which detects pedestrians and animals at a distance of 150 meters in front of the vehicle, and the driver distraction warning system.
