MagSafe charging capacity on the iPhone 12 mini is 20% slower than the iPhone 12.
In the newly updated Apple support brochure, the iPhone 12 mini is limited to 12 W charging power when charged with MagSafe, which is lower than 15 W on other iPhone 12 models.
The iPhone 12 mini only reaches a maximum capacity of 12 W when charging via the MagSafe port with 9 V / 2.03 A or higher power, equivalent to 18 W. While the rest of the iPhone 12 models must use a USB-C charger. 9 V / 2.22 A or 9 V / 2.56 A or more for 15 W.
However, the current and the charging capacity that the iPhone 12 achieves depends on surrounding factors, including temperature and the performance of the system.
On the other hand, the MagSafe charger will be limited to 7.5 watts of power if the iPhone 12 simultaneously uses Lightning accessories like the EarPods headset while charging. Apple does this in order to comply with the strict safety regulations that set out in itself.
The document also states that the MagSafe charger should be connected to a power source before placing the iPhone, as this allows the accessory to be safe before providing maximum power.
If the user places the device on a MagSafe charger before plugging it in, the device will not be able to provide the highest charging capacity. Then, users need to remove the iPhone, wait three seconds and reset it as before.
On November 3, the MagSafe Duo charger was certified by the National Radio Research Agency of Korea (NRRA). The device is being tested in many countries and will be available in the near future.
At the iPhone 12 launch event, Apple introduced the MagSafe Duo charger capable of simultaneously charging an iPhone and Apple Watch. This is seen as an alternative to the AirPower charging dock – an accessory announced by Apple in 2017 and will never be sold.
