VIDEO: Toyota has just introduced the second generation Mirai in Japan. This sedan has a starting price of $ 68,200.

Exactly a year after releasing the first information about the new generation Mirai, Toyota officially introduced this sedan in the Japanese market. The Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV) is available in G and Z versions. The Mirai has a starting price of 7.1 million yen ($ 68,200) for the G to 7.9 million yen ( $ 75,875) for the Z version.

In terms of styling, the Mirai 2021 looks more like a Lexus luxury sedan than an upgrade of the Prius like the first generation. In the front, the Mirai has a large trapezoidal grille that occupies the entire front area. Main lighting system and fog lights are made slim.

Towards luxury, the second generation Mirai gets rid of the sporty lines. Therefore, the body of the Mirai feels flat and bigger. The Mirai’s hood is lower downward, with a hint of coupe hybrid sedans that are prevalent in recent times.

The rear of the Mirai is divided into many sections with cut lines. The rear light system with the stylized L-shaped motif is similar to Lexus sedans. The twisted multi-spoke wheels make the car more luxurious.

The second generation Mirai is built on a TNGA platform and a GA-L chassis for large vehicles. Compared to the previous generation, the Mirai measures 4,975 mm (+85 mm) long, 1,885 mm wide (+70 mm), 1,470 mm high (-65 mm). The wheelbase of the Mirai 2021 reaches 2,920 mm, 140 mm longer than the old generation.

The Mirai’s interior space also follows the principle of minimalism with main planes. The car is equipped with an 8-inch digital dashboard, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment with Android Auto / Apple CarPlay, JBL’s 14-speaker sound system and Qi wireless charging.

Powering the Mirai 2021 is an electric motor, producing 180 horsepower and 300 Nm of torque. Compared with the previous generation Mirai, the electric motor on the new Mirai is 29 hp more powerful.

Powering the electric engine is 3 hydrogen gas cylinders, helping the car to travel distances up to 850 km, up 30% from the 650 km in the old generation.

The Mirai is equipped with the latest Toyota Safety Sense package with forward collision warning system with integrated pedestrian detection, emergency steering system, radar cruise control at speeds above 48 km / h.
